PCM vs PCB: Which Stream Has More Options?
PCM (with Maths) technically provides more course flexibility: PCM students can apply for all engineering courses AND can access PCB-reserved courses if they also studied Biology (PCMB). PCB (without Maths) limits access to engineering and some data science programmes but opens the medical pathway. For maximum flexibility, taking all four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology — PCMB) in Class 12 is the strongest choice.
CUET 2026: The New Gateway to Central University Courses
From 2022 onwards, Central University Common Entrance Test (CUET) has replaced merit-based Class 12 marks for admission to most undergraduate programmes at central universities (DU, BHU, JMI, JNU, etc.). This means your Class 12 board marks alone are no longer sufficient — you must also qualify CUET with a competitive score. For BSc, BCA, and BA programmes at DU and other central universities, CUET preparation is now as important as Class 12 board performance.

No. MBBS requires Biology as a compulsory subject in Class 12. PCM students (Physics, Chemistry, Maths — without Biology) are NOT eligible for MBBS through NEET-UG. However, PCM students who also studied Biology (PCMB — all four subjects) are eligible. PCM students without Biology can pursue: B.Tech Biotechnology (engineering route into biotech), BSc Bioinformatics, B.Pharm (some colleges accept PCM), or B.Sc Computer Science/IT.
B.Tech is a 4-year degree. Fees: IITs — ₹2–3 lakh total for the full 4 years. NITs/IIITs — ₹5–8 lakh total. Top private colleges (VIT, SRM, Manipal, BITS Pilani) — ₹8–20 lakh total. Regular private colleges — ₹3–10 lakh total. Entrance: JEE Mains for NITs/IIITs; JEE Advanced for IITs; BITSAT for BITS Pilani; VITEEE for VIT; state CETs (MHT CET, KCET, TNEA) for state colleges.
Courses after 12th Science that don't require a separate entrance exam (admission based on Class 12 marks): BSc (most state universities — merit-based admission); BCA at many colleges; B.Pharm at some private colleges; BSc Nursing at private nursing colleges; BSc Agriculture at state agricultural universities; BSc Hotel Management at most private institutes; BSc IT/Computer Science at many private colleges. However, top colleges for any of these courses typically do have entrance exams (CUET for central universities, college-specific tests for private autonomous colleges).
